Fleet Reliability

Asset Refurbishment & Replacement

Plan for every scenario with transformer spares and replacements.

What We Cover

Protect Your Assets. Minimize Your Risk.

Are you prepared for what happens when a transformer goes down?

Environmental, electrical, and mechanical stressors can threaten your transformer fleet without warning — leaving little to no time to respond.

Asset Refurbishment & Replacement is your strategic safety net — ensuring your backup units and replacement plan are just as reliable as your frontline equipment.

Our approach helps you:
  • Eliminate costly, unplanned downtime
  • Reduce lead times with tested, ready-to-deploy units
  • Avoid unnecessary costs and budget surprises
  • Keep your site safe and your operations running

The TIA Process: Test, Inspect, Advise

TIA is SDMyer’s proven evaluation process — fluid testing, visual inspection, electrical testing, and internal inspection — that provides a detailed “Findings Report” with corrective action steps to ensure transformer readiness.

You need a strategy to protect your plan with backups, refurbished units, and reliable spares. To help you accomplish this, SDMyers provides partial refurbishment services for existing transformers or assistance in procuring new units. Whether your fleet includes 2 or 200 transformers, SDMyers helps ensure you're prepared to maintain uninterrupted power and long-term resiliency.

Our Service Options

Transformer Refurbishment

Restore your fleet to "like new" conditions.

SDMyers offers partial refurbishment to restore transformers and their components to ANSI, NETA, and IEEE standards. Performed at our Tallmadge, Ohio facility, the process includes inspection, testing, repairing, and certification of critical parts — without replacing major components like the core or windings. Our goal is to return your transformer to near "like new" condition, exceed compliance standards, and make it ready for reliable reinstallation.

Why Refurbish?
  • Cost-effective compared to buying a new unit
  • Faster turnaround process compared to lead times on new equipment
  • Thoroughly tested (electrical and fluid) to industry standards

New Spares & Replacements

Complete equipment replacement and spares for peace of mind.

Get ahead of long lead times and stay up and running smoothly with a new transformer. With a legacy of expertise in transformer maintenance and reliability, our experts understand how to navigate the sourcing, installation, and deployment of a new unit for your fleet or substation.

Our Replacement Process:
  • Contact a Transformer Specialist
  • Determine your needs
  • Source a replacement

How the TIA Process Works

01

Test

Confirm spare transformers are reliable, functional, safe, and deployment-ready through a chemical, electrical, and mechanical evaluation process. We work on pad-mount or smaller station-style transformers less than 10 MVA / 69 kV class, with a max capacity of 38,000 lbs.

02

Inspect

Our specialists inspect the test results to identify signs of deterioration or risk. With precision and care, we interpret what your test data means for your equipment based on our decades of transformer data and research.

03

Advise

We understand each situation is unique. That's why our team reviews your diagnostic assessments prior to performing the necessary work and discusses a maintenance plan tailored to your needs.

04

Act

We restore units to like-new condition — replacing parts, performing repairs, upgrading fluids, and adding safety products based on findings — all without replacing major components like windings or core.
